  • Join us for our last big sparkling WORD! of the year - headlined by Carolyn Turner and Robert Ferguson, co-hosted and curated by Teagan Buckley and Lydia Towsey and celebrating this year's International Day of People with Disabilities.

    Robert Ferguson

    Robert Ferguson is an academic, Civil Servant and management consultant - turned poet and writer of fiction... His professional life has taken him across Europe, the United States and the UK. Now based in Birmingham and since retiring, he has published numerous short stories, a novel (A Magic Flight”) and three books of poetry (“Late Starter”, “Start to Finish” and “Love and Other Thoughts”). His next collection, “Everyone on My Street”, will come out in the New Year and explore some of the issues and difficulties experienced by the large number of inter-sectionally excluded people in our society - including at least 11 million disabled people; roughly a quarter. He says he owes much to his participation in our regular Wednesday WORD!s workshops, which is very kind of him. We feel very lucky to have him.

    Carolyn Turner

    Carolyn Turner is a Leicester born and raised poet. Since leaving a long career in nursing due to illness, she has focused her time between her charity work for a London based Charity, The Brain and Spine Foundation and her own personal creative writing. Her roles within the charity include peer support and the facilitation of neuro-social, neuro creative writing - which Carolyn co-runs in collaboration with a fellow spinal tumour sufferer. She has been an ambassador for the Brain and Spine Foundation for last 9 years, and assumed the role of Trustee in January 2023.
